Who We Are

our mission

Girls Write Nashville empowers expression through songwriting, production, mentorship and creative community for teen artists. We are an artist- and educator-led 501(c)(3) creative youth development program in Nashville, TN allied with community schools to create safe and trauma-informed creative communities and opportunities for cultural participation for youth.

We identify as a social impact organization working within creative and expressive justice. We work to be co-conspirators for youth mental health.

our story

Founded in 2016 as a one-time community arts project funded by a $2,800 micro-grant, co-founders Jen Starsinic and Georgia English continued the program as a nonprofit after our initial nine participants asked to come back next year.

Since then, we have grown to serve over 300 students annually with over 5,500 hours of free community-based music programs. Our work has been featured on NPR’s Here & Now, named Best of Nashville “Best Teen Programming”, and been recognized as a semi-finalist for the Lewis Prize for Music.
